From what I can glean from your Journal, the Road-To-Recovery has flattened out and you are pushing forward (as am I). The hardest thing for me is HOLDING MYSELF BACK - I feel great - no pain (only took about 8 pain pills while in Cardio Recovery Unit). My focus is on Positive things, routine exercise, smarter eating and reaching for my next travel date goal of November 30th. The Power of Prayer and a good dose of humility will be my path. I have all my Post-Op appointments on the calendar and will not let anything distract me from becoming stronger on a daily basis! HUGS to you - communicate your story with others - help others - today, I an Annual Appeal for the American Heart Association (seriously thinking of upping my donation to them this year as a partial payback to those that helped me)!!!!!!!

Hope all went well, I only know of one other person to have a pulmonic valve replacement. We both had pulmonic valve stenosis with outflow tract stenosis. We both had the Ross procedure then 10 years later needed the pulmonic redone. Was your stenosis primary or secondary due to previous surgery? Walk and breath ,it takes a while to recover.

Paul Wells I was very unconditioned by the time my Drs decided on surgery. I climbed stars one at a time
It was difficult to walk and talk. My heart was inlarged. I had put on weight
If you go into surgery more conditioned than I was , then I would expect a quicker recovery.
By day 4 I was walking the halls ok ,.I even walked down to the gift shop and pathology.
Dicharged on day 5 friday. Slept in bed not a recliner. Walked inside the next few days. Started walking outside by day 8.
What slowed my recover was the enlarged heart. At 6 months I feel I was 90 % of what I was going to be. But it took a full year to find my maximum recovery. My max recovery was limited to scar tissue, dysthymias. And because of the stenosis, my replacement pulmonary valve was downsized
The sternal wound pain was manageable without meds. I took no pain meds after discharge. I slept well. I ate very little. My Dr put me on beta blockers for a while. But they made me lathorgic.
Cardiac recovery went well. I was up to 4 miles a day on the treadmill by the end.
I did not go back to work till week 9 because my job is so physical. Might have gone back week 6. if I had a sit down job. When I got back to work. I found it hard to concentrate and learn new tasks. Other patients have noticed simular

Just for the record, I too am facing surgery for a defective valve (Mitral) - prior to the decision to have my surgery, I met with my Heart Surgeon (1.5 hrs). He discussed all my options (one of which was to do nothing) - all said and done, I told him I wanted to go for Open Heart (repair defect in valve will be Plan A - Plan B will be to use a Cow Bio-Value) and I will also be having a stent placed in my Right-Coronary Artery). My surgery is scheduled for August 9 with pre-op on August 8. Lets compare notes after we are able to get back online! PRAYERS & HUGS heading your way!
