Tammy Pilcher This was my biggest fear too. I was so out of it that as soon as I felt it I heard a man say "Let's get that out". He told me to cough and took it out. I fell right back to sleep. It wasn't bad at all. Praise the Lord!

ian browne Tube? Which tube? JK. I don't remember much of my 48 hours in ICU. By the time I woke up, the tube down my throat had been removed. I'm 3 weeks into recovery and taking two 15-20 minute walks a day. God is great. Good luck with your surgery and recovery. The first two weeks can be a challenge, so keep your faith strong.

Hi Judith ~
I'm preparing to have a valve replacement sometime in August. Since you been there I was wondering if you could answer some questions for me. That was it for you when you were in preop? Will you sedated at that time? Do you remember waiting a long time I seem to be anxious about that as i'm anticipating . Thank you so much for your support !💕

Judith Collins pre-op is just talking with your surgeon and getting blood test, chest x-ray,ekg ,pft(breathing test) and carotid doppler. It varies what tests your Doctor orders. It is nothing to worry about.
Jeanette Davidson I am sorry I mean waiting the day of surgery , in the pre op area. Any tips?

Suzanne Hunter They usually give you a sedative of some sort or certainly something to make you calm. The nurse who waited with me just talked normally and I understood her so you are still with it and not sleepy. I remember being pushed into the op room but can't remember if I stayed on the same bed or if I was put onto the op bed. They put something in my arm and next thing I remember is waking up in ICU. They always have someone with you so you are never alone. Hope this helps.

Judith, I am in the same boat. I was diagnosed with BAVD with moderate regurgitation and a 4.9cm ascending aorta in early January of this year. My wife and I flew to Cleveland Clinic for a surgical consultation, where I was told to come back in 6 months for a check up. I am uncomfortable waiting based on what I find online. How large is your aneurism? Best Wishes, John

Jennifer Anderson Hi John. I came across your post and wanted to let you know that I had the exact same diagnosis, including the 4.9 cm ascending aorta, and they did monitor me for 6 months. At the end of 6 months I was still at a 4.9 but they told me it was time to start penciling in the surgery. Overall, I was diagnosed in July and ended up having the surgery on February 9th. I went through the Cleveland Clinic and they were fantastic.

Judith Collins John, My ascending aorta is 4.3 to 4.5 . Had 2 different readings from 2 radiologists. My BAV is .996 so I think I will have surgery in August but have to have stress echo in 2 weeks to make sure all the other valves are OK under stress. Hope the best for you. I know it is very stressful but Cleveland Clinic is one of the best.

Judith Collins Bav needs to be .8 before they like to do surgery with ascending aorta 5 or less around 4.8. That is what my cardiac surgeon told me. But cardiac surgeons have different opinions. How old are you? They base sometimes on age too.
