Yeah, it does seem crazy, as you said, that it takes that long for the medical profession to identify your murmur etc. But, honestly, I had moderate to severe regurg. with my mitral valve and for years my primary care physician and even a cardiologist didn't hear it. I only found out when I was getting a coronary calcium CAT scan. So, know you are in company. I am not knocking the medical profession. I have a lot of respect for physicians, tough job. I think the heart is an amazingly strong muscle and can take an incredible beating (hah-pun), before extreme symptoms show..
