Jan McClain I'm flying next Saturday to Oregon with my family for Spring Break/ family reunion, returning following Thursday. I hope you're out of the hospital by then. Not sure you'll be wanting random visitors this next Friday, likely too soon after Wednesday surgery. Let's see how it goes, Dave needs to post accurately about how you're doing each day--tell him I said that!

Hi Jan, It's 3:00 AM here in our neck of the woods, nape of the way, and before I try to get a few more winks I wanted to thank you for really wanting things to go well for me and caring about all this!đŸ’• We did get apologies from my surgeon, the Surgical PA and our friend, one of the CFOs at UCSF. The VP surgery at Benioff offered no phone call or communications except to say to the CEO these thing happen.
We were offered our hotel costs reimbursed, but no pomise I wouldn't be cancelled next week too.
ill let you know what up, but this weekend I plan to enjoy ressurection Sunday with Dave. Thank you!! đŸ’”đŸ’”

Barbara Laurie Maybe I was too tired writing yesterday, but, to be clear, the surgeons rearranged the schedule at the latest early Wed. Morning, but they all neglected to call me, the surgical coordinator tried to fedx me, and whenshe couldn't she used an encrypted email, 2 days later. I use "My Chart" messaging system which this gal never uses, AND no one called me. Period. Ok!off we go home! Lovely weekend to youđŸ’”

Jan McClain Hi Wanda! Yes, I am doing well, no real problems. Surgery was two weeks ago yesterday. Have orientation appointment for cardiac rehab next week. Now starting to plan "rest of life" that was on hold before heart surgery -- my several month wait from diagnosis of severe mitral regurgitation to actual surgery was BY FAR the worst part of the entire experience. Here's a little story you will laugh at....I didn't meet Dr Gillinov until the day before surgery (that's how they do it there). His first words to me were something like "I've reviewed all your records and testing, I think your regurgitation is actually 3+/ 4 (not 4, severe) and you really don't need surgery quite yet. THE DAY BEFORE SURGERY. I said, pointing, "I'd rather jump out that window right now than have to wait again for surgery. I want my surgery and I want it now". I JUST WANTED IT TO BE OVER.

Wanda Mroz Oh my gosh! Lol...Good Lord! I would have told the surgeon the same thing! Get it fixed now! Waiting is awful... The longer it takes the more you think! I was fortunate to have a great surgeon right in my backyard so I was able to see him twice before surgery. He was so patient and kind... His people skills are impeccable just like his thoracic skills! I think you'll like rehab.... It's a good feeling to go and get stronger! đŸ’

Jan McClain Thanks for the message Sharon. I was discharged yesterday, am in a hotel near the clinic, have followup appointments Friday, and return home Saturday. Will be happy to share my experience with you--maybe we can meet up somewhere in the Bay Area. And whoa, best part, I had robotic surgery and I CAN DRIVE whenever I feel like it (as long as not taking narcotics, which I'm not--Tylenol is working just fine so far.)--so no waiting 6-8 weeks to drive WOO HOO!

Congratulations Jan! I had the same condition, much the same story, and the same surgeon. Dr. Gillinov is the best, as is his team, and Cleveland Clinic. You are in the best hands. My repair was April 9, 2015 and before you know it, you'll be looking back wondering what all the fret was about. Prayers and blessings to you!

Hi Steph and Jan! That's good news! I'm glad it went well, and now for recovery. I'll be interested to hear your experience as the patient compared to yours as the non-patient (during Gail's ICU recovery). I'm glad it's over and the recovery can begin. I hope to talk to you soon...and Stephanie, I'll try to call you sometime soon, too.
Take care...lots of love. "Danny boy"

Had Mitral valve repair three months ago on November 23rd. Surgery went very well and I recovered much quicker than I expected. My husband and I did a 5K this past weekend. Not nearly as fast as we used to do them (we are walkers not runners!) but still finished in under 50 minutes! Good luck with your surgery tomorrow - thoughts and prayers will be with you :)

Hello Jan. I just wanted to tell you I have your name up on my calendar for the 25th.
and can't help but say how happy I am that you are getting a chance soon to move forward with your life, newly mended heart and all! I hope your experience is one similar to mine where once you are being wheeled into the surgical area all you think
of is something you carry in your heart that fills you with confidence and joy that you
will soon be out here ready to begin your recovery. It says in your story you are from the Bay Area and I was born and raised there and was wondering where you live as
maybe we can meet one day so I can cheer you on with your recovery! I wish you the
best and hope you have someone who can kindly update the community of people
thinking of you on your Big Day! Be strong now Heart Sister as it is only a matter of
time and you'll be feeling just how being on the other side of this surgery is such a
good thing.......OMG is just turned into Martha Stewart. Take care and know all will be
well!

Hi Jan
I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse at age 24 and told just keep an eye on it, fast forward to 2/16 need a surgery to hopefully repair the valve. I also live in the Bay Area, Walnut Creek, CA and am beginning the search for a surgeon. My question is did you see any surgeons in the Bay Area or LA and what made you decide on the Cleveland Clinic? Would love to hear from you.
Thanks and good luck on your surgery
Sharon

My story is similar to yours as well. First noted when I was a teen, and sometime after that was told to take antibiotics when going to the dentist. That was it, until much later, when I would occasionally have an echo as part of my primary care doctor's well check. In June of 2014 at the ripe young age of 56 had an episode that had me in my PCP office in less than 2 days, and so began the work up. August 20, 2014 I underwent my surgery that showed the Mitral valve was beyond repair and I had a replacement done. I will make 19months post op this week and have felt so much better in lots of ways!
I would be happy to answer any questions or concerns from my view point.
Wishing you the best of care, and an outcome that exceeds your expectations!
Nancy
