Hi Ellen, We all have our special journey to do and it will differ. I just want to share that even after tough surgeries you can come back. I have been lucky but as my doctors say I have also been disciplined in my rehab and a bit stubborn 😊 Of course I was afraid and still is sometimes today. One key thing for me was that I got up moving pretty quick already the day after. Not much but small steps day by day. My doctors and nurses told me clearly , we will come to you tomorrow after the surgery and we will help you walk and I basically thought they are crazy…. It will happen things but ask your team. I remember a few days after the surgery when they took away the electrodes that was connected to my heart and my resting puls jumped from 55 to 120… I got panic. Then the nurse came do not be worried it is like 20-30% that get this. You will get some medicine and hopefully it jumps back if not we do a restart tomorrow morning. Do you think I laid in my bed that night looking at the monitor 😊. 2 am it jumped down to 70 and then I got another small dose and 3 am it was back so no restart. Then I really tried to move during the days after surgery, small steps and follow their support. Physiotherapist helped me on a daily basis, small step. I also got painkillers, do not like to take it, but they were clear. You shall move and if you have pain you will whine 😥 I took it all in small steps. It is also a mental journey. I talked to Psychologist both before and after, quite a few times and I still do a bit since I still have my ups and downs a bit. Put your own targets. Do not compare to much with others. I can only say that physical activity on a very reasonable level have been good. I attended the rehab and actually got it prolonged from 2 months with an additional 1,5 months since they seemed to like me. It was also good to meet others in that group training to see that you are not alone. Try to get it into your daily life, take the walk, do the gym,,, I bought a activity watch to see how I was doing. Then plan and focus on thing you like to do. It could be physical activity, other activities, go to a cinema etc etc. I do not hide what happened to me, I am open and when people start to talk to you, you realize you are not alone. 3 in my 100+ people department had only one kidney, two had repaired aortic root, lot of us on blood pressure medicine etc. You are not alone, take it step by step, do not be too hard on yourself but not to soft either. Do what you know you like and do it more. Ask for advice and support. By being open I have got a lot of feedback and love. Picture from yesterdays golf round, went ok but not more. Yoda still with me.
