Dear Elaine,

It was painful just reading all that you have been through in your appalling experiences with your cardiologist at Kaiser. I'm so glad you are now in excellent hands and out of the nightmare of Kaiser. The very best to you on January 20th. I had mitral valve and tricuspid valve repair and a PFO closure at Mt. Sinai in NYC 6 months ago. Doing well.

Hi Elaine!

I'm your neighbor here in Napa and on January 7th,2025, Dr. Chikwe performed my robotic surgery for mitral valve repair. It was a success and I am forever grateful to her and her wonderful team. I cannot say enough about the people at Cedars Sinai from Dr Chikwe and the ICU nurses to the volunteer staff. Last but not least, her nurse practitioner Vivian is amazing and truly helped me get through everything before and after the surgery.

You're in good hands. I wish you the best!

Hi Elaine- I’m so glad you were ultimately able to get away from your dismissive cardiologist. That sounded like an awful experience. I also have mitral prolapse with severe “eccentric” mitral regurgitation. I had insurance issues too, and had to wait to switch. I’ll be right behind you with my procedure on the 30th! Good luck next week.

Dr. Chikwe performed a robotic surgery to repair my mitral valve in May, 2025. She and her staff at the Cedars Sinai Smidt Heart Institute are amazing, skillful and supportive.
Similarly, my first cardiologist “dissed” my symptoms.

I am so glad to hear that you found a good surgeon! “Saga” really describes your experience so far - afib for more than 35 years? I can’t even imagine… my 1.5 years felt bad enough. Wishing you a successful outcome! It is possible it will take years (common for a lot of us), but you will get there!
