It just takes time. Gradually increase run time a little at a time. It takes a full year for you to recover from a major surgery like this. I ran my first marathon thirteen months after AVR, Dacron aortic graft, and bypass five years ago April 27 at Mayo in Rochester 58 hrs of age. I enjoy swimming 6 miles a week, but running and biking are still a challenge.
Any relation to former Olivia mayor Jack Stumpf?

I had my aortic valve/aortic graft done 5 days after you so we are pretty close in our recovery. I was amazed at how much your story resembled mine. I am struggling to get moving as the muscles in my back scream when i do much of anything. I even have to sit down while cooking dinner. I think my muscles are used to not being used so they scream when I try to use them. Walking up stairs can also leave me out of breath. I can walk farther than I did pre surgery without stopping so I know I am better.
My guess is its just going to take time.
