Brent Musat funny, I've had ocular migraines with aura since like age 12.. I would get one roughly once a month without any migraine pain, sometimes more frequent and it seems to mostly depend on the weather. anyway, I had hoped that maybe, maybe, after valve replacement they might go away... but no luck, I've had probably two typical 20-30 minute aura migraine events since surgery.. :-p

Rose Madura I've had them all my life and seems to be more prevalent since surgery. Coincidence? I dont know. If they are the kind that start in middle of vision and move out, with jazzed lines, those are the worst and give me a terrible headache. if it's a white dot type of aura, those aren't too bad. Either case, I try to tr ake Tylenol ASAP to combat the pain. Sometimes it helps, other times, nothing but sleep helps.

Brent Musat Rose, I get the start in the middle of vision and move out squiggly rainbow lines like 90% of the time. Unable to read or look at things in detail when it first starts. John, I too have been to neurologist and had CT scans with contrast to no avail.. nothing abnormal so I guess some people just get these (maybe hereditary since my mom gets migraines but w/o the aura). I'm fortunate that I usually don't get bad headaches with them.

Daphne Reiley Andrew Dial, I had my first 20+ years ago. Terrified me. I have had migraines before that did produce pain and I had my ways of dealing with them. However, I thought something was terribly wrong. So, I went to see an opthalmic doctor who examined me and explained that what had occurred was an "ocular" migraine and that it had nothing to do with my eyes--just my brain(!).
I think it had been several years since I had experienced one. However, in the hospital post-surgery, I began noticing these strips of "crinkled" party foil traveling around the edge of my vision in my right eye and eventually traveling into my left field of vision, along with silver blobs shooting across my field of vision. I again saw my opthalmic doctor who gave me a thorough exam to rule out any sort of issues with my retina attempting to detach (my essential worry re the silver blobs) and again confirmed that my eyes were fine.

He offered an explanation that sort of made sense--I was under anesthesia for about 5 hours, underwent heart-bypass, etc., all of which had taken its toll on my brain. He encouraged me to be patient and they would diminish over time. I did notice they began to occur a lot less frequently. However, a week ago I "over did it" with a combination of things--too much activity, not enough rest, and not enough water consumption. I sat down and rested and began drinking water. I noticed a difference within an hour or so.
