Piece of cake Ben,you got this O.K.But…….be aware of the after effects of the anastetic and the bypass machine as they may not tell you ( as in my case)I.e.foggy brain, poor memory /cognition.and you may end up with very low iron.I know this all sounds a bit gloom and doom but hopefully you might not have any of these problems. As for myself my procedure went great and I could not fault my nurses and surgeon I just feel like I fell in a “ big hole” after the op.with no real follow up help. But I’m getting on top of it now Ben and I know you will be a new man .Best wishes and welcome to the club🥴

Hello Ben
I am so happy that you are (or soon to be) discharged. I know how exicted you are to be home or headed that way. I'm sure that you plan to go to cardio rehab, I believe as soon as a couple of weeks. I had to wait longer, due to slow recovery. But it really helps you bounce back. So the worst is over & keep a positive mindset!

Ben,
best of luck! Focus on the finish line and not on the race. I had my ascending aorta replaced along my aortic valve with cow tissue. 4 weeks was the turning point for me, where every day got significantly better. I was back lifting weights at 5-6 weeks, light and hi rep. Started cycling at 7 weeks. 4 months out was riding 75 miles per week. Back to work at 8 weeks. You’ll do great!

What a relief to have the surgery behind you! I had my aortic valve and my ascending aorta replaced in June 2022 at Duke University Hospital with a great team headed up by Dr, Chen. Very easy recovery and I feel great! Walk often and as much as you can.
Michael Tarasewich posted a note for Ben that says:
