Hi Andrew- I hope your surgery went well. Dr Sakwa performed my Mitral Valve Repair, November 2017. He is amazing, talented, and passionate about what he does. I found the care I received at Beaumont to be top notch.

Yes,the surgery went, well, a lot of pain the first day. Ended up with surgery causing a where flare up of asthma, bumped by blood pressure a bit and raised a little help with my a1c and blood sugars. We're hoping these are all short term problems that will resolve... Read more.

Hey Andrew! You will do great with your upcoming surgery. I had the same one back in June of this year. 2.5 inch incision to replace my aortic valve and my ascending aorta aneurysm. My surgeon Dr. Lamelas trained yours so you are in great hands.

thank you for the encouragement. I'm definitely nervous, but it's time to get it done

Andrew - I had a mini-thoracotomy for a mitral valve repair. I also have a very small incision and had almost no pain. You're going to blink and it's going to be over! Stay positive - you can do this!

I've decided to go with the mechanical valve. I had the choice between tissue and mechanical. The drawback with the mechanical is the Coumadin therapy, but it's generally a 1 time surgery vs a tissue valve which may need to be replaced in 7-10 years

Andrew, good that you are looking at the volume of procedures for your surgeon! It matters. Where you can find expertise at Beaumont they are awesome! My dad had success there with some novel cancer treatments and my mother-in-law with a neurosurgeon. Great outcomes! Hopefully you have the Sam elf... Read more.

I definitely will, 35 days and counting. I did change my mind with regards to the valve. I decided to go with the tissue and in 15-20 years I can always replace it at that time by TAVR if it has deteriorated.
