Hi, I am sorry for the loss of your mother. I recently had to move my mother to a nursing facility because I could no longer care for her at home with my medical condition. She has alzheimers disease and does not understand. It is so good that you are caring and giving your sister support. I had a heart valve replaced 20 years ago and it is now time to replace it so I will be going into the hospital on Sept 29. I relate to how scared she must be and having you I\'m sure is a comfort to her.

Hi Fran,
I\'m very happy to get a response from you.
My mother was too old to realise exactly what the situation is. I just spoke to my sister (I\', in Gurgaon and my Sister in Chennai , India) She and her husband are again visiting the doctor to fix a date.
Should be able to let you know the exact date by tomorrow.
I have already read Adam Pick\'s book and have given a copy to my sister Deena. It is very helpful. Your support is also proving to be of tremendous help.
Shortly I intend getting my sister online too.
See you later.
Joseph

Glad you found this site. I too, had a valve replacement and a valve repair this year. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. Did your mother know about your sister\'s need for surgery and did she encourage her to have it? If the doctors think this is the best time then encourage your sister to get it done, get on with her healing and feel so much more improved. She will grieve now or later but don\'t think this will affect the outcome. As Paul said, please get Adam\'s book, you can download it on line. Then you and your sister both need to read it. There are many of us here who are willing to support you in any way we can. Good luck.
Fran

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the message. I have yet to mention this journal to her. I would like to first know more from you before I get her online. She seems to be hesitant about going through the proceedure. As I mentioned earlier, she has postponed the opereation for various reasons earlier. We lost our mother last Monday. Is it too early after this traumatic experience to go into the operation ?
