Hi Sara!! My husband Sergio had his mitral valve replaced 3 months ago, he has now a St, JUde mechanical valve. I don't hear much of mechanicals in this blog so it is good to hear that you have it. Life in blood thinners is easy, my husband has reached the desired level of the blood thinner now and is not much sacrifice he is doing on the food section. I found this links useful in educating yourself on this area:

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

here you fill the search box with any food you want and you can check the amount of Vitamin K for each one. There is also the list of foods with high, medium and low amounts of vitamin K:

http://drgourmet.com/md/relativewarfarinlist.pdf

check the drgourmet.com they have a coumadin part with a lot of useful info about food and blood thinners.

So Sara if you need more info on this: I have it and feel free to write me:
maribelgarzon@yahoo.com.

Do you hear your valve ticking??? do your husband hears it?? let me know!! Congratulations on your discovery. If you want to read our story put Maribel and Sergio in the search box. hope I hear from you!!
