Adam, once again, I commend you for your continued interest in offering great information for all in search of knowledge, regarding their heart valve surgery, at your blog. You are giving of yourself and time to serve others, bless your heart!

John (RossProcedure Mar 5,2008,Dr. Bleiweis,Shands Hospital at Univ. of Florida, Gainesville, Fl) had his first check up with surgeon yesterday. We are thankful and delighted that everything is coming up great. He has good stamina, and all the tests were good, Dr. Bleiweis was very happy and said "it is almost unbelievable" that the valves are working great, there was absolutely no fluid in lungs or around the heart, and he is off pain meds and sleeping meds now! (16 days post surgery). Even with a difficult first 24 hours after surgery! We were all so happy to get these results and opinions. I have been remiss in sending any more news, as we are taking care of the babies (2) as well as working part-time, and it is taking all of our time! John promised he will email the great pictures of him walking and recovering in the hospital and his family picture soon. He tried doing a blog and he's got great info plus pictures at http://johnturan.home.att.net. The incision shield has been invaluable.
Keep up the good work, Adam. Can I nominate you for a Nobel Prize?? (ha,ha--well, it may be possible). Love, Mercy, Mother of John

PS As a nurse who's work also a little in the OR (nothing like open heart, though), I love the videos!

Hi Adam
Great link, and thank you. But I have an important question for your mitral valve surgery candidate ... is he or she sure the valve needs to be replaced? Can it be repaired? Repair is by far the preferred option. Robotic assistance can help. My advice would be to talk to several surgeons who do *at least* 80-100 mitral valve procedures a year, who come highly recommended by your own cardiologist or other expert, and include those who use robotic techniques and who will try their utmost to SAVE your valve. Sometimes this is not possible, but up to 90% of the time it can be. Good luck!
