I am new to this site and I hope I am posting things correctly..
I have just been diagnosed with Aortic Valve Stenosis within the last month. I have been having heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue for a long time and I thought I was just out of shape. It happens when I get out of the bath or shower and I attributed that to the quick change in temperature. Walking up the stairs with laundry causes my heart to be fast and HARD. Bending over to tie my shoes or to pick something up- same thing.. Each time it happens I get so tired and feel like I could sleep for HOURS. I reached out to my birth father and it turns out his side of the family has an awful cardiac history- he himself has had high blood pressure and he just had a mitral valve clip put in last fall. He has 2 siblings who died from heart attacks and other issues with cousins. I am not overweight (5 feet tall/ 122 lbs- I did have LapBand surgery 6 years ago and lost 86 lbs) I really have been healthy since my weight loss surgery. I don't take any meds outside of OTC Aleve and I have a prescription for migraine meds that I take as needed. I cannot get in to see the cardiologist until 3/21. I have been trying to educate myself and find out as much info as I can and everything I have read is telling me that surgery is really the only option and I am terrified.. I have been trying to talk to my friends and family about it but I feel like they are just sort of taking it all with a grain of salt. On one hand I know I shouldn't read too much into things until I see the cardiologist but on the other hand it seems like I would not be showing the symptoms I am showing if it wasn't serious. I am just scared and frustrated and I am having a hard time waiting.. Am I crazy and over-analyzing?

It sounds like you have about a week before you see the Cardiologist to get some answers to your symptoms. It will feel like a month, but it's not too far away. I would suggest some distractions this week to keep your mind a little distracted. It can get a little crazed.
Once you find out what's going on and what your options are, let us know, ask questions. There are a lot of different experiences within this community. Best wishes!

Barbara Laurie Terrified is definitely a response to the thought of OHS but keep reading this web page, read Adam's book and you'll start to feel a little more in control and prepared. But, don't let the wait grind you, since your next appointment is just another step in the journey and who knows what that appointment will be like? Everyone here will just want to wrap you in hugs and reassure you every step of the way❤️❤️ Best Regards!

Joyce Shelby Hi Tracy! I hope that you find comfort and peace once you have had an opportunity to speak with your cardiologist. The best thing now is that you have identified a potential change in your health and you are addressing it immediately! Of course what you read can be scary, but only your cardiologist can provide a realistic medical evaluation of your personal situation! I wish you continued health! This is a great site to talk to others about their personal experiences! We all understand!

Best wishes to you, Tracey! The great part about this website is that it is a support group and we have all been there or going there at some point. This is scary, but the statistics are in your favor and luckily you are able to have your situation monitored. I had AVR on 12/1 and I am just now feeling back to normal and can actually work out without getting as winded or have heart palpitations. I am grateful for the extra time and for the ability to have a new valve that keeps my heart healthy.
