I had a mitral valve repair about 7 yrs ago and until recently had felt normal again. Recently I had some symptoms and was retested. I just got my results yesterday and I now have moderate leaskage in mitral valve. I didn't have much time w/my cardiologist and have more questions. Will be researching -- but why is it leaking again? Can I have a transcatheter procedure if needed if or when it gets worse? Adam, do you have any advice or has anyone out there had a similar circumstance?

Susan Lynn Susan - I'm sorry to read your news. Subsequent regurgitation is also one of my biggest worries. I haven't had this issue, but I've definitely read about people on this site who have. I hope they will respond with their experiences and solutions. Did your doc mention if the ring was coming loose or if you had a chord rupture? I would suspect either of those issues could cause leakage, again. Did you have a robotic procedure, minimally-invasive, or mini/full sternotomy the first time? I wonder if there is commonality in the entry and long-term success. We'll be here to support you through whatever is ahead. Best of luck to you. Please keep us posted.

Hi. Well, I followed up on the referral to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL as I mentioned in "My Story" tab of this journal. I will be having my less invasive surgery for mitral valve repair on Monday, July 14th. Of course I am getting nervous as the date approaches, but feel I have a very competent up to the minute surgeon in Dr. Thomas Beaver and am also very impressed with all the people on his team that I've met. I will be in good hands. I am thankfully scheduled for a repair (which I was praying for). So now just trying to get things in order with my home, pet care and paperwork. To be continued.
