Hello Friends
My father, 60 years old is going to undergo an open heart aortic valve replacement surgery after 2 weeks. We have chosen St. Jude's Trifecta Valve for him. I want reviews on this kind of valve and its pros and cons. My father is having slight diabetes ( fasting 114 ) , and also his creatinine and potassium level in blood is a bit high. He is also having low RBC count in blood but haemoglobin level is safe around 14. Please let me know is he fit for the procedure?

Mark Wilbur Hi, Sayani. Sorry to learn about your father's condition. This site has lots of good resources. At the top of the page, click on "Learning Center" for many videos, articles and interviews. Also look on You Tube and research sites like Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic and American Heart Association. Risks vary by individual, but one thing is certain for everyone with aortic stenosis: left untreated, it will cause death. Regarding your father, only his doctors can give you a realistic answer. What I can assure you of is this: if he is in good health otherwise, the risks are considered very small. Read comments posted here and you will find that surgery has helped a lot of people to a better life. I hope this helps you. Best wishes to you and your father and hope that all works out well for you.

Rita Savelis I'm sorry that you and your father have to go through this. But 60 years is young in the cardiac world and if your father is in good general health, there is no reason his surgery itself wouldn't go well. Recovery can take time and one can feel exhausted and uncomfortable for weeks/months afterwards. But as you will see on this site, most have good outcomes. Wishing you some peace as you go through this.
