Hi all, I am one week post op. on my AVR. Very sensitive in the chest area. I am getting better and can get into and out of bed without help. I hope to see a marked improvement by the end of the second week. Don't cough, don't laugh and... Read more.

You will see improvements everyday... But may have a bad day now and then too. All normal. And if you cough, sneeze or laugh... Just hug that pillow., makes a big difference. You're on the other side now! Congrats! 💞

Hi all, I am scheduled for AVR on Feb. 25th. My emotions are all over the place. My cardiologist said technically I could wait a few more months but didn't recommend it. My numbers are 3.75 but I do have some breathing issues. I do hope I am doing the... Read more.
Welcome. It is always better to do these things sooner than later. Why risk damage to the heart? I had mitral valve repair... but can answer questions as far as OHS. Many wonderful people on this site that have gone through it and can answer questions for you. Breathe... normal... Read more.
I had MV repair in Nov. I was glad I had it when I did, I would have had it sooner. Keep busy and you have found a wonderful website for support, information and compassion.

P.S. I also got a porcine tissue valve and I believe you are doing the right thing by having it done now. I saw my surgeon on a Thursday afternoon and he scheduled me for the following Tuesday morning. I was sort of shocked when he told me that soon... Read more.
Thank you so much for your input. A week to go and your information will help me cope with it. As long as I don't fall apart the day I go in, I will be good! LOL

Hi all, looks like AVR in mid Feb. I am leaning towards a mechanical On-x valve. However, I have a colonoscopy scheduled for next year. I understand if they have to remove a polyp that could be bad on Coumadin. Anybody had a colonoscopy with a mechanical valve?
I can't answer about the colonoscopy but I have an On-X mechanical valve. Been ticking away since Jan 2014....
I'm considering an on-x valve. I never thought about the Coumadin and colonoscopy. Now with on-x less Coumadin required.

I work with an internist physician and just today we were talking about coumadin and she mentioned that she had a patient who was on coumadin who had to get off of it temporarily because of the colonoscopy. She said he had been off of the coumadin and then couldn't... Read more.
As I said, I am 2 years in and haven't had the pleasure of a colonoscopy yet. I did have 3 different procedures in a doctor's office. For one, no change to my warfarin was required. For the other, I bridged with Lovanox injections and it was no big deal.... Read more.
