As a mostly retired nurse in orthopaedics I know that surgeons have vastly different skill sets and some have more consistent outcomes than others. I am having a hard time finding out which surgeons at the hospitals I am likely to use are the best with aortic valves.

stephanie arnold i was fortunate,being emergency ohs,avr, that my surgeon is a board cert,head of the thoracic surg dept at the hospital i wound up in. i never got to assess his bedside manner or anything. but to me that is important. if the ssurgeon who is going to pry you open,dig around in your chest,your heart, if you have the opportunity for a q and a with them, go for that. look up reviews, that sorta thing. you have a cardiologist? if they are attuned to you,pick their brain. good luck, you will be fine.

I had doctors names for two local hospitals and did some digging into them and interviewed them until I knew who was right for me. Good luck with your search.

Ask: aorta valve surgery volume, mortality, morbidity, # of ER visits 30 days post surgery, # of infection rate 30 days post surgery, etc.
