Ronald Lukowski  Day 3 after surgery, doing well. Shower felt great, taking off bandages sucked. Feeling much better with bandages being removed. Finally was able to make a bowel movement, after 3 days. Antibiotics have a wonderful side effect. Started to take daily readings of temp, bp, pulse rate. Started taking daily walks when possible, with neighbor.

Christopher T  Speaking with Dr Gillinov made a lot of my fears go away. I think it was his confidence. He also said he rated a mitral valve repair a 3 out of 10 as far as complexity.

Richard Munson  A talent we did not know deena had. Very impressive. I assume it takes more than using a mirror.  I think mild is the important word of the day. 

Marie Myers  Are you on a beta blocker? That will slow your heart rate. I am on bisoprolol, and my heart rate runs the same as yours . I am 7 years post aortic valve  replacement.

Susan Lynn  Pankaj - Welcome! Don't worry, heart surgeries are pretty safe and in most cases, life expectancy isn't adversely affected by our repaired heart conditions. Finding the right surgeon takes research and multiple consultations with different physicians. You'll need to put your list of questions together and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. This is a big decision and it deserves thought and attention. You'll find your confidence will increase as you learn more about your condition and the surgeon you will trust with your care. I wish I knew of a surgeon in your area, but what you can do is find out where your prospective surgeons did their training. Those who learned and perfected their skills at world-renowned heart centers may be a good start. Wishing you the best of luck. Please keep us posted.

Kimberly Eisenhut  Pankaj, take it a step at a time. When I was first told about my Tricuspid valve regurgitation and aortic anuerysm, I was also very scared. Then I found this site and researched and found a good Hospital and Dr, and now am monitored every 6 months. Just breathe and know you have friends here and so much information available to you. You will be o.k.! I have been monitored for 7 years, as so many others here were before their surgeries. Dan Fouratt  Pankaj,  I was your aged when I was told about my BAV.  I went 31 years before replacing it 7 months ago.  My life was not affected by having the BAV.  I did have a yearly visit with my cardiologist and did more stress tests then my friends but that is it.  Now 7 months post OHS I am back to 100% in fact probably better fit then before the surgery. Because of my age I went with the bovine valve.  This surgery is more common then you would think.  As others suggested find a doctor you are comfortable with to monitor.  When Surgery time comes around research them.  You will be okay, the initial shock will wear off.  good luck on your journey.
