We didn't get away from CC today! The roads were very unpredictable. It is still snowing and the locals are tellings that the roads are not getting any better. Yesterday was a very tiring day for me! I didn't realize how tired I was until I was too exhausted and my medications couldn't get me caught up. It was all down hill after that. Didn't make much of a recovery until about 5:00 AM this morning and then fell asleep and got some rest. Don't press it on the first day! Thanks for all the kind words prayers. Malinda and I are wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Mike H
Putting another picture out there for all to see how good Mike looks - This was taken just before we left the hospital room. He is doing great. Weak but that's to be expected. We're spending the night in the hotel here and then hopefully, roads permitting, we'll be on the way home in the morning!!! Yeah!!!
Moving from the hospital to the hotel!! There is over 10 inches of snow on the ground and still supposed to snow today. We will hang out here until at least tomorrow morning. Mike is getting stronger every day!!! The power of prayer has certainly been proven. Praise God!! Thanks to all. Malinda
Mike has made a couple excursions from his room today. Went for a walk this morn. Had his first shower today. Said it felt Soooooo good!
Wore him out but that's to be expected. I think that is the biggest surprise to him because he feels so weak. After a nap we ventured up to the rooftop solarium. Looks out over Cleveland and Lake Erie. Took another walk and back to room to see if we could get the Colts game on tv. That's a good gage on how well he's really feeling!!! :)
Our oldest grandson Riley is in second grade and is required to write weekly book reports. Before Jennifer left to come here to be with us she explained to Riley Grandpa was going to have some heart surgery. Riley chose 'Vessels and the Circulatory System' to write his book report on. After Mike's surgery Jennifer called home and Riley wanted to know if Grandpa got a plastic heart. :) Who knows maybe Grandpa inspired him to become a cardiologist or a cardiac surgeon!
Mike's Echocardiogram taken this morning showed a great working mitral valve. The cardiologist that came in this morn said Dr Roselli did a great job!!! YEAH!!! We were both able to get some much needed sleep last night. Mike is no longer hooked up to iVs and had his oxygen removed yesterday. He continues to improve daily. He is still pretty weak but that is to be expected. We will start a walking regimen today which should help that. Thanks to all for your posts. It makes us feel closer to home. Mike is so happy with Clevelavd Clinic but he wishes it were closer to home. Love to all. Malinda
Mike is doing quite well. He has been sitting up in a chair since about 10 am or so. Just got back in bed to take a nap. Think I might too. No sleep last night. Everybody on this floor must have decided to have a party in this room last night. Ha ha!!! :) The cardiologist and PA were in earlier and said all looks good. Tha PA said he may be dismissed Sun or Mon timeframe. Yeah we're excited that he's doing so well !!
Mike had a relatively short stay in ICU. Moved to step down unit about noon today. He is sleeping on and off because of pain meds but is doing quite well. The will not let him lay in bed to eat so he has been up in a chair eating already. They had him up in a chair in ICU this morn. I have moved into his room with him which is nice I can be right here and know exactly what is happening. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, they certainly work. Thanks to all of you that have signed his guestbook with words of encouragement. That means a lot to both of us. Mike will enjoy reading the latest ones probably tomorrow. He has been checking his journal a few times a day. Keep those prayers coming! Thanks to all. Malinda
We finally got to see him at 11:00pm last night. He was still on the ventilator and was not taken off until 7:30 this morn. Last night they thought he would spend today and tonight in ICU but Dr Roselli made rounds this morn said he will be moved into a private room today. He is awake and talking. Of course, he is very sore but they are controlling his pain very well. They don't want him to be in pain because it inhibits healing. It's SO. GOOD to see him and he has a very positive attitude.
Dr Roselli came out and talked to us a few minutes ago. Surgery went well. A little longer than expected but a good outcome. Dr. reconstrcted flaps and put a ring at the base of the valve to make it more stable. He will be in ICU tonight but Dr would like to have him in room by tomorrow aft / eve timeframe. Will get to see him in a couple of hours. Can't wait to see him! LONG DAY
It's 1:30 and still waiting, but you never know what the person before had going on and I'm sure Dr Roselli will give Mike the same attention when it's his turn. We're hoping it's not much longer- the wait is the hardest Malinda
It is so great to hear from everyone. I am so greatful for all the prayers. I know that the Lord will be with Malinda and me this day. As Dr. Roselli said yesterday, " This surgery will put my life span back on the 'normal curve'. He is very confident that my valve is repairable and I should do well. Again, thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. Stay tuned, Malinda will keep everyone updated. Mike
Well this afternoon went downhill fast. Anyway Mike is scheduled for the second round of surgeries which means he will report to the hosp at 10:00am. And will probably have surgery no earlier than early aft. The surgery will last approx 4 - 5 hrs start to finish. Dr. Roselli will be doing the surgery . Jenn & Beth are here and We know Jeff is here in spirit. Sorry this post is so late. But you know how it goes in hosp settings. Keep us in your prayers. Love to all , Malinda
Mike is resting. Dr. Hanna (: said his heart cath went well. No problems. YEAH!!!! On track for the minimally invasive procedure. We will meet with surgical team after we leave heart cath recovery @ 1:30. This appt includes meeting with Dr. Roselli so we'll know for sure after this meeting about the exact procedure and time tomorrow surgery is scheduled.
Mike is now back having his heart cath procedure. They said it will be approx 1 to 1 1/2 hrs before I will get to go back with him. Better than tomorrow. Am not looking forward to tomorrow but we know he is in the right hosp for this surgery which helps tremendously. Everything we're hearing about Dr. Roselli is SO positive. This is a big place but you certainly don't feel like a number here. The staff has been so nice and helpful. Talked to Jeff this morn and Jenn and Beth will be here later. We are so blessed with such a great caring family and wonderful friends. Even people we don't know have written many words of encouragement. God is so good to us. Keep us in your prayers, we need them. Malinda
( please sign your guestbook messages so we know who left them Thanks)
Had all my tests this AM. Everything was on time. CC has this down to a science. I got along fine. Malinda and I are setting in a waiting
room waiting on a doctor to speak with us. After this I have the echo and I will be done for the day. Well everything went smoothly up unitl the echo - then it was downhill the rest of the way - hungry and tired we were!!!! After 3 hours spent in the echo lab or waiting area we were finally finished and able to get something to eat and back to room to rest - Ready for bed early tonight - Report to registration desk at 6:30 and heart cath scheduled for 7:00 am. Here we go!!!! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers - Malina
Hi everyone! I want to thank all my family and friends for all of the kind words and prayers. It sure means a lot to Malinda and I. We left Lafayette this morning at about 10:30 AM and arrived at the Cleveland Clinic guest house at about 6:15 PM. Stopped for a meal and got stuck in traffic on I-71 due to an accident. The Guest house is not much. It is old and they don't have Wi-Fi. It is just across the street from the clinic. Malinda and I went over to the clinic after we got into our room and found out where everything is located. I am hungry right now but just looked at my schedule for tomorrow and I can't have anything to eat or drink for 12 hours. With the tests I will not be able to eat until sometime around noon tomorrow. Well, I had better sign off and try to get some sleep. Thanks Mike.
Thanks Doug and Bonnie, and Jannie for keeping me in your prayers. This mean a great deal to me. Thank you Fran for the information about the download for the relaxation/guided imagery tape. I will get it downloaded ASAP. My surgeon name is Dr. Roselli. Nancy H.- They had me go to my dentist so that she would make sure my teeth and mouth were clear of any and all bacteria and infections. Our mouth has a very high blood flow. They did not what to run the risk of a bacterial infection after my surgery. Guess what? My dentist did find a infection at the base of one of my molars. Got it taken care of and I am still on for the Dec. first date. I could have been a show stopper! Thanks to very one who has visited my journal. More to come later.
Received my package of information from the Cleveland Clinic yesterday. They sure do have a lot of information. One homework assignment was to see my dentist. Malinda has been so good about supporting me. The kids have also stayed in touch and have asked how things are going. Without the support and encouragement of Malinda and the kids it would be difficult to stay so positive.
