I’ve been diagnosed with mild aortic & mitral regurgitation.Somedays art great & somedays I get out of breath climbing stairs & the odd chest discomfort sometimes in my left arm when either of these happen I tend to get very tired. My doctor says that I don’t need surgery unless there were moderate to severe but I have mitral regurgitation since 2018 when I had a pericardial infusion.I would appreciate any advice you can give me.Kind Regards Linda🙏

Suelynn Hanegraaf Welcome, Linda, to this informative ❤️🩹 community! Love Dublin! I am a big believer of second opinions. I would suggest checking with another cardiologist.

Susan Lynn Linda - I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing these symptoms. If you haven't had a stress echocardiogram, you may want to ask your cardiologist to order it. My regurgitation was barely detectable when I was at rest, but under exertion, it was very obvious. After looking at the screen, my cardiologist announced - 'You need heart surgery!' A TEE was scheduled a few weeks later that confirmed the need for a repair of my mitral valve and chords.
Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted!

Robert Miller Did they do an echo? What is your EF? Is your heart enlarged? Do you have afib? How often do you get checkups (in your case you probably want to get checkups every 3-6 months)?

Suzette Schear Hi Linda, I had mitral valve regurgitation and I had no idea. The breathing was a Hugh issue for me and I had a hard time walking without taking breaks. The bad breathing was slightly gasping then got worse slowly then it just went downhill. My heart thankfully was not enlarged from the backwards blood flow. Honestly you can’t put a price on your health or you. I would get a second opion and let them run some tests ss listed above from this group. I was active and moved around slot, hiking erc.. when the cardiologist looked at my echocardiogram thsy we’re shocked that it was completely ruptured. Every journey is different I’m just sharing mine with you. Being proactive can help other things from not getting worse. Best to and welcome
