I will be having a mitral valve repair/replacement this summer. Found out that I needed surgery the same month I lost my Aunt, due to heart disease. More than a little nervous.
Anna Jones Hi Linda, please accept my condolences on the loss of your aunt.
Anna Jones Hi Linda, please accept my condolences on the loss of your aunt.
Probably the vast majority of us are nervous about the surgery. Everyone who has had it says that the waiting is the worst part. I have my surgery in 25 days and I struggle with keeping myself calm and centered.

Carol Kauffman Hi Anna and Linda:
I am 2 months post OHS for aortic valve replacement and 1 bypass. Since I'm the nervous type, I too was concerned about whether I could hold myself together b4 and after surgery. The surgery and hospital stay were "endurable"- but my 1 month post surgery time at home, surprisingly, was almost serene! I can't remember when I last felt so calm. I realized had been racing thru life on a hamster wheel for the last couple of decades and all of a sudden I was just sitting, enjoying the view out the window, reading, coloring (yes, my friend bought me a coloring book!), snuggling with my dog, resting whenever I felt like it, and having my meals brought to me. My advice? Focus on all the relaxing days ahead and tell yourself you deserve your "time off!" Think positive!! Wishing you well!:-)

Susan Lynn Linda - I had MV repair last December and the waiting is the worst part. I was up and walking around on day 2 and, with the exception of being tied for a couple of weeks, found the whole process to be very tolerable. Get yourself some nice pjs to hang out in and this will be behind you before you know it. Best of luck!
