1 More full day to go. The thought of surgery and recovery is pretty much constant at this stage. I'm anxious about going in and having to see my wife in emotional anguish over my surgery. I'm anxious about the lead up to anesthesia and waking up confused. All this is compounded by the fact that I'm feeling so good right now. No chest pains, trouble breathing or heart palpitations. Just knowing that I've got to feel a lot worse before I can feel better is a hard pill to swallow.

Dan Vechiola You got this Kirk! You are feeling very normal feelings. It is hard thinking about our loved ones and the anguish they will experience while we are in surgery. However, when they get the good news following your surgery they will be ecstatic. This is your chance to reclaim your life expectancy . I felt the same way as you because I was asymptomatic and felt good. After surgery I now can say for the first time in my life that I have a healthy heart without a murmur. The peace of mind you will attain is worth so much for you and your family. Visualize a successful surgery and think positive because this is going to happen so fast you won't believe it. Keep us posted on your progress.

Get fired up to stare this thing down. Look it right in the eye. It is not bigger than you, you are bigger than it. And don’t underestimate the toughness of your loved ones!
There are some meditation and relaxation apps out there — I used one three times and found it helpful — and you can “dial in”. One of Dan V.’s best pieces of advice is to distract yourself. Think: “It isn’t OHS, it is a healthy new chapter.” What happens between now and then is a technicality! Those are merely details! ❤️💪

Louanna Miller You will do great. One step at a time. You have madevotvthrough everything up to this point. This is just the next step in the journey. You will wake up in ICU and hear your loved ones voices. That was so awesome for me. I wasn’t awake, but could hear them. I will pray for your peace and comfort. Take it one day at a time.

I snuck a few comfort items in the bag my husband was holding to occuppy his mine while surgery was being done. A new book to read, crossword puzzles, and some of his special treats for snack. Will be keeping you and your wife in my prayers.

Susan Lynn Kirk - you're going to do just great! I was also worried about the same things. I said good bye to my family before I went into pre-op, so there was no drama before going into the OR. I was only awake for about 5 seconds after they administered the anesthesia and I wasn't confused at all when I woke up. Don't worry about it - you will feel like you were asleep for one minute and it'll be over. All the best! We'll be here waiting for you!
