My son is 28 and is being referred for heart surgery #6 after a Ross Konno, repair of Ross Konno and transcatheter pulmonary replacement. He is now looking at a another replacement of his aortic valve and being (by one surgeon) mechanical is the only option . I am looking for cutting edge surgeons who might be willing to consider repair or bio replacement given his age. Any direction would be greatly appreciated!

Rita Savelis I'm sorry that your son has had to go through 6 heart valve procedures in 28 years. This is hard. Mechanical valves would be recommended for someone so young, alas. I have 2 mechanical valves placed in 2015 (at age 52). I hope that your son can find a surgeon he trusts.

No idea who the expert is in aortic valves, but they should be able to direct you to the right place. Best of luck to your son and to you. I can't imagine what you've both been through after six surgeries. Please keep us posted.

susan harris Julie, I am also mom to son w heart issues. Although relatively, he’s only had one OHS at age 5 for subaoetic membrane removal. Headed for AVR soon. He’s 26. If you can swing it, I strongly suggest a visit to Cleveland clinic or Mt Sinai NYC. I think they’ll do video/zoom consultation if travel is issue. Glad to chat if needed. Sometimes I think it’s harder on us than them? Take care of yourself, too!
