Was told by local physician I had pulmonary hypertension. Fortunately, I have a friend who was director of research for a pharma company specializing in that. He told me to go to Mayo in Jacksonville. Turns out I didn't have PH, I had diastolic heart failure! Told to come back in a year. May 2017, Mayo says now have borderline severe aortic stenosis in addition!...told to comeback in December for another echocardiogram. Said I will be needing a aortic transplant. I also have multiple myeloma, a rare cancer of the blood plasma. I've been treated for that for 13 years. I was told I only had 3 years at the beginning, but thanks to the grace of God and Dr. Rafat Abonour of Indiana University Cancer Center I'm still here. I've got so much wrong with me it's hard to tell what symptoms go with what. I had a complicated back surgery 8 months ago and still can't walk right. I'm experiencing shortness of breath when I walk and tiredness...no syncope yet. My cardiologist in Naples Florida where I live doesn't seem that interested in me. I asked him what would he do if he were me. He said go to Mayo, but the way he said it I think I was getting blown off. That's where I am today.

Catie B Joseph, that is a whole lot on your plate. I hope you can find a new local cardiologist. It makes sense that Mayo advised to keep a close watch now that the stenosis has tipped into the severe range. Best to you!

Cathleen Weed I think some doctors do get very blasé about health issues. Compassion should be a basic courtesy in the health profession, but it's not always the case. On the bright side, you can look at it as they have seen this so many times with a successful outcome that they have forgotten how daunting it can be to the person going through it. "The only 'minor' surgery is the one happening to someone else" lol. If it was happening to them they would have a completely different reaction, as you know. You'll get a lot of encouragement from this site. I happened upon it a little over a year ago when I was doing some research for my business. I've already been through several open heart surgeries in the past and all is well over here! I try to help out and answer questions whenever possible. I wish you the very very best with everything. The "watch and wait" approach is difficult but it's also normal and when the time is right it will all move fairly quickly. You'll know when that time is based on your symptoms and your "numbers". Believe the numbers, they don't lie. When it's time, it's time. ❤️
