Hi Everyone
I’m seven months post op from a biscupid valve repair to fix severe regurgitation.
The surgery went well and my recovery has been great. I’m back to doing normal activities including mountain bike riding.
I’m curious to find out who in this group has been living with a repair and if they have come across any complications or any further surgeries..
Thank you in advance and god bless

Susan Lynn John - I also experienced restless legs early into my recovery. It was manageable, but definitely noticeable. I chalked it up to the post-op medications I was taking and it did turn out to be temporary. If you're concerned, call your doctor's office. There may be something they can do. Please keep us posted! ❤

Susan Lynn I just consulted Dr. Google on RLS and heart surgery. It's apparently pretty common and related to the level of iron in the brain after surgery. Hope your situation is quickly resolved.

Susan Lynn John - Marie is right. It's definitely advisable to check with your physician. Your iron may even regulate in its own. I'm not sure how long you were on bypass during your surgery, but post-op anemia is common but usually resolves with time. Please keep us posted on your progress. ❤

Susan Lynn John - There was someone on this site taken off of metoprolol a year and a half after his aortic valve surgery. I was taken off metoprolol nine months after my mitral valve surgery. No offense to your cardiologist but at 2 months into your recovery, that prediction may be a bit premature. Your heart is still healing. Stay positive. It wouldn't be the first time one of us got questionable information from a cardiologist and it won't be the last. Be well! ❤

Rose Madura John, I had a lot of complications from the surgery. You can read my journal entries if you want. But I was on megadoses of Metoprolol for quite
a while and they weaned me down to 12.5 mg twice a day. I had been on 200 mg twice a day. My heart rate stays in the mid 50' now and that's where they want it. When I would go into Afib or Aflutter, I was very symptomatic and could not handle it. It caused my heart rate to go up into the 180s and my BP would drop to very dangerous levels. So, if I have to stay on this low dose for the rest of my life, I'm perfectly ok with that. Hope this helps.

Mike Roskowinski John I know it is hard at first to get used to but in time you will have a good rotation. I was hoping to be off mine also but I am on 3 meds that I take at three different times of the day. Metoprolol makes me tired when I take it so I usually take that one at bedtime. Otherwise Losartan in the morning and warfarin before dinner. I guess you got to do what is going to keep you alive! Good luck and congrats on 2 months. Things move faster later on in the process.

Barbara Wood Hi John, I started metoprolol ( actually I take toprol xl- the non generic ) before my mitral surgery & have stayed on it for over 3 years now. I take 12.5 mg/day. It's definitely a tough drug to get used to - fatigue, dizziness were my side effects for at least the first few months on it. I had a history of afib before my surgery & it helps in rhythm regulation, that's why I continue on it. It's very dehydrating & my best advice if you're having a hard time with it is to drink Gatorade or one of the mineral/ electrolyte additives ( like drip drop) to your water & drink large amounts. That really helps! Best wishes as you continue to recover!

Marie Myers I started 12.5 mg of metoprolol twice a day after my surgery 2017 and have been on it ever since. By slowing down the heart and decreasing the strength of contractions, I am hoping it will extend the life of my cow valve. I am happy to take pills that are intended to improve my health and possibly prolong my life.
