Cathleen Weed Hi are the surgeons really saying they want to work on all the valves at once? The most important is usually the aortic valve followed by the mitral valve. Perhaps you qualify for the less invasive TAVR procedure? It's called the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and it's done through the femoral artery instead of the sternum. You could ask. I hope you get better news. xo

If you are in good health and active, then you should be okay. I can understand why you'd be scared and hesitant. That's a lot to take in.
I was first told I had one valve to work on, then two, and after surgery I found out that 3 were done.
Of course I am jealous of those who only had one valve replaced. Life can be unfair.
Try to find a surgeon you trust. Take care, Jean.

Marie Leighton At 60, I am getting 2 done, and a 3rd is beginning to leak. I have been told that minimal leaking is normal as we age. My husband, at 66 now has 2 minimal leaks. They don't do anything unless they become severe. Go for it, Jean, if the doctors are trustworthy and urging you to do so. we here will pray for you. God is so good, He will be with you each second and we are all friends here, going through similar situations.

jean creagan My choice of Doctors is Patrick McCarthy at Blum. Will know tomorrow how sever mine have become and Thursday, will have a nuclear test all in prep. My primary tells me I am strong enough but that I will have a very long recovery. I had been very active until this started happening. Hearing from others really helps big time so Thank you so much for your comments

Rita Savelis A long recovery is common. I appreciated that my surgeon told me it would be long because therefore I expected and accepted that, even as it was difficult.
At least I knew the truth in what to expect.
Some patients go into OHS expecting fast recoveries and are disappointed.
It's true that older people have longer recoveries in general and OHS is a lot to put your body through. It's hard to be less active for awhile, I hear you on that one. Wishing you the best, Jean.
