Rita Savelis Yeah, Giovanna, the clicking takes some getting used to. I usually am aware of mine (2 valves!) when it is very quiet (as when I am quietly sitting and reading) and then it can be weird and distracting. I like to put a small pillow over my chest at those times to just make it a bit muffled and make me feel secure. Hearing the clicking can also happen at night, and i have taken to sleeping with the chest pillow nearby. As time goes by, one gets used to it. And it is a sound that I am now only aware of occasionally.
But it definitely takes time getting used to clicking, like anything new. It's a reminder of your heart and your valves, and that can feel weird.

Keith Heflin Giovanna,
I'm 5 months post op with an On-x AVR. I hear the ticking whenever I pay attention to it. I find it comforting now, but there were a few nights early on where it kept me up for a while. My son and daughter say they can hear it when it's quiet in the car.
