Late .2 year anniversary of my ohs for avr thanks the Lord for his grace let me tell it was a challenge at the beginning but you started to meke changes and adjustments to make tour life as nirmal as we can it was hard mentally for me being 32 when i got my surgery but the Lord was holding my hand in every moment of my life and still its i be grateful all my life to him because of all the good people that he had put in the pad of my life its hard but yes we can become normal again and be grateful to the Lord and be thankful for his mercy we us

Peggy Whitecotton God is so good he will hold your hand all through your journeyl.. it's been 27 months for me and it changed my life. He has giving me a new heart and a second chance of life and I give him thanks for this new heart of mine.

Wow 4 months have past since my surgery .i feel good my Dr said that i don't have any restrictions that i can do everything i want thats a plus but i have to build my stamina to be where i was before surgury but im taking easy in my job just working 5 hr a day i want to started wirking more but im being lazy but i will start working more hours after spring break for sure anyway i just want to let you know the everything its going to work for the better just take it a day out time don't rush your self listen to your body .have wonderful day and God bless everybody amen

Best wishes! I started back a couple of weeks ago and each day has been easier. The hardest part for me is when I was on leave, my sleep schedule was out of whack and I had to adjust to getting up early again! Hope all goes smoothly for you!

Jean Raber It's interesting to see the echoes on the monitor, isn't it? I haven't had surgery, but seeing the mitral valve flopping around took some of the mystery out of it. The tech had it in color and everything, which shows how much blood flows back into the chamber. She didn't want to show me, but I told her I already knew my valve was bad, and why should she be able to see my innards if I couldn't :-)

Sophia Ridley It's fabulous to see it fixed. Mine looked like arms on a pinball machine rather than a floppy banana skin. I always ask to see Echos etc as it helps me make sense of what's going on. Helped too when suffering AF to know that the valve was strong, and to see the quiver.

Meredith Bray Do some research and make sure you know what foods are high in K - mainly the darker green veggies & leafy greens like kale and spinach, then broccoli, green beans, brussels sprouts, asparagus. Cooked greens have higher levels. I've found I can enjoy a Publix sub with spinach as a topping and not have any issues. They key to K management is consistency. As long as you are eating the same amount of greens each week, your dose can be adjusted to meet your needs. And everyone is different! It took me almost 6 months to settle in to a regular routine and dose, now I only get tested aver 5-6 weeks.

Sophia Ridley Hi Frankie, I haven't been a great fan of leafy greens (green veg in general ) and I've never struggled to find a suitable dish in restaurants. Many have online menus so you can check ahead of time.

Ironically as my valve was calcified I'm now starting to embrace greens and 100% pasture fed meats. I had a repair and on a thinner (due to paradoxical AF) that's doesn't require monitoring but it is NOT suitable for mechanical valves.

Jean Raber Hi, Frankie, yes, looking up restaurant ingredients online can help you. Some restaurants have little hearts next to items that fall within cardio diet parameters. Olive Garden has some of these. Ditto Big Boy. I did a lot of cooking for my mom after her surgery and got used to reading labels. She had a yen for mac and cheese, and I found a heart healthy recipe online. She was amazed at how good it tasted! I think the secret was the dry mustard added for some zing.

7 weeks today after surgery. I'm doing good for the must part sometime I get anxious but I have to calm my self down .tomorrow I'm going to get my paper work to start rehab and to start working light duty but I want to do 2 weeks of rehab before returning to work since I lost a lot of weight since surgury .

Meredith Bray Rehab is great! I'd never worked in a gym before, so I was nervous. The nurses and technicians were great - explain what each machine does, and told me exactly what to do, what intensity, and for how long. I didn't like the heart monitor because I'm very sensitive to the adhesive for the lead attachments, but it was comforting to know that they were watching me. Rehab will give you a very good sense of how hard you can work out.

Liz Burroughs I'm glad that you're doing better each day! I hope your doctor will okay your return to work if you're ready. I went back to work 7 weeks after my surgery. It was hard for me at first & I was very tired at the end of the day but now I'm doing pretty well. I also go to cardiac rehab on M-W-F before work. Good luck!!

Wanda Mroz Me too Liz.. It gets draining some days but builds strength. Rehab is great.
