Dental preparation for Heart valve surgery. If one has periodontitis and you have an urgent valve surgery? Experiences? Advise?

My situation is not urgent, I had one year to prepare- I went on regular dentist and parodontologist visits to keep things healthy and clean. I hope you can still manage to see the dentist/parodontologist asap and hear his opinion, maybe he'll clean the gums...he'll know what to do...if anything... Read more.

I would also ask your cardiologist and possibly surgeon what their thoughts are on the periodontal disease.

Poll: For age 55-65 being a very active life, sports and travelling and Aortic valve Root replacement. Do you choose 1. Medtronic Freestyle aorta root valve with a graft (bio-Bentall?) or 2. Inspiris Valve with graft (modified Bentall procedure). And why? Hope you can help me here.

I was 67 and I went bio-Bentall. This was 2.5 years ago. My surgeon, Lars Svensson at the Cleveland Clinic, chose an older Edwards valve, with a separate root and aorta. Not sure what he would have chosen today, given the advances.

Lovely people. Thanks for the welcome and comments. Apparently my situation is critical and will be operated within 2-4 weeks. I was focused on a Inspiris valve and a modified "Bentall procedure" or "wheat procedure" . The surgeon of one hospital said that I should use the Freestyle Medtronic porcine... Read more.

So, do you have an aneurysm as well? Many people, myself included, with Bicuspid aortic valve develop an aortic aneurysm. You threw me when you said an "eventual" graft. That would mean another surgery done the road. A few people on this site had a Bental procedure so hopefully they... Read more.

I had both an aortic root aneurysm and an ascending aortic aneurysm. Because I had a bicuspid aortic valve , I had all 3 done at the same time. I chose a tissue valve, which was an Edwards Life Science valve, and I have a graft on my ascending aorta... Read more.
