Klara Čičić My situation is not urgent, I had one year to prepare- I went on regular dentist and parodontologist visits to keep things healthy and clean. I hope you can still manage to see the dentist/parodontologist asap and hear his opinion, maybe he'll clean the gums...he'll know what to do...if anything can be done in such a short time. Herb Greenberg I was 67 and I went bio-Bentall. This was 2.5 years ago. My surgeon, Lars Svensson at the Cleveland Clinic, chose an older Edwards valve, with a separate root and aorta. Not sure what he would have chosen today, given the advances.

Lovely people. Thanks for the welcome and comments. Apparently my situation is critical and will be operated within 2-4 weeks. I was focused on a Inspiris valve and a modified "Bentall procedure" or "wheat procedure" . The surgeon of one hospital said that I should use the Freestyle Medtronic porcine aortic root and eventual graft. The reason was, that normally for BAV patients the chance for dilation of aortic route and ascendant is higher than TAV patients. Let us say I just had an AVR replaced with Inspiris, the chance for me to have an operation in the future due dilation of aortic root and ascendent is high. Does this rinb a bell for anyone?

Rose Madura So, do you have an aneurysm as well? Many people, myself included, with Bicuspid aortic valve develop an aortic aneurysm. You threw me when you said an "eventual" graft. That would mean another surgery done the road. A few people on this site had a Bental procedure so hopefully they will chime in. I guess my thinking is that you would want to get everything done at once. Maybe I'm missing something and if so, my apologies. You are doinf the right thing by asking questions.

Marie Myers I had both an aortic root aneurysm and an ascending aortic aneurysm. Because I had a bicuspid aortic valve , I had all 3 done at the same time. I chose a tissue valve, which was an Edwards Life Science valve, and I have a graft on my ascending aorta and aortic root. I believe the aortic root and valve were all one piece, which is probably easier for the surgeon to implant. Hope that helps.

Marie Myers Hi Eric, lots of us have chosen a tissue valve with Modified Bentall procedure. I have an Edwards Life science bovine tissue valve placed 5 years ago. After recovery from the initial surgery, you may feel better depending on the heart function improvement from the new valve. With severe stenosis, you probably will feel better. For me, I did not feel any difference, because the driving force for my surgery was the ascending and root aneurysm that had developed related to my bicuspid aortic valve. I had some regurgitation, but I never noticed any symptoms related to it. So that is different for everyone. Perhaps others will share their experiences. Hope that helps!

Eric, I also had the Bentall procedure and got the same replacement valve that Marie also got almost three years ago and I didn’t feel much of a difference as I also had an ascending aortic aneurysm that was the main reason for the surgery besides the regurgitation of the aortic valve. I never noticed any symptoms related to either. I was recently diagnosed with a new aneurysm in almost the same area where they repaired the previous one and will have to get OHS to repair it. Not very happy with the prospect of getting cut again but it needs to be done as it has a tear. But was told by the surgeon that the valve is doing fine and will not need intervention. Waiting on surgery date. You’ll be fine Eric. Blessings

Tom Everson I received the Edwards Inspiris Resilia 2 years ago and it has preformed great. I suggest you get a large size to accommodate a valve in valve future surgery ( mine is 27mm) I was 78 at surgery time. You should receive a card to keep in your wallet a month or so after your surgery. (. Shows model number, serial #, name of valve, implant date, size) Good Luck

Eric Roche Thanks all. The point of Life management if valves is on point. A bigger size valve (normally us men have that) makes allot of sense! Again using biological prosthetics is a trend now, not to mention the valves, Valve conduits. Just think of the last 5 years of innovation. Wouldn't be surprised that the mechanical valve will one day be obsolete. And minimal invasive surgery either for valve and aneurysm will be a standard thing. Even the Epic Plus has now a valve which makes TAVR more possible. Again when you have BAV it is a different story. Lessons learned like with other deceases, check early!! Even when you are younger
