I live in France and had heart surgery in France. I had Italian-made mechanical valves implanted and an Italian surgeon (for very complicated surgery with three valves to be replaced or repaired). Hello Andrea, I completely agree with Rita. I'm from Croatia and I will have my surgery in Leipzig Herzzentrum, Germany (paid out of my pockett, but price isn't that expensive as USA). When I was researching my heart valve issues, I found that there were many papers written by Italian doctors that were in the forefront of heart valve surgery and coming up with a lot of innovations. They didn't seem so far away from what's available in the US.

Italy is known for significant advancements in heart surgery. Pretty certain the initial successful mitral valve clip was invented in Italy. You are in good hands there with some research as to best surgeons!

I agree with everyone. You should be able to find excellent care in Italy. The cardiologist here in the US who did a TAVR on my Aunt studied in Italy for five years learning the technique so they may be more advanced than we are minus red tape bureaucracy 👍
