Five weeks ago I had an open heart surgery to repair my aortic aneurysm. I am curious about my fast pulse rate, that I am told is 'normal', but it feels anything but… My pulse at rest is about 88 and it will go up to 110+ if I walk... Read more.
I understand that hearts have to remodel after surgery and to get used to the surgical changes that were made. Mine did the same things... I had nurses chasing me down when I walked the halls of my step down unit since my heart rate would rocket ship up, even as I walked at a snails pace. Are you on a beta blocker? Anything to help control your heart rate?
Yea I am on Metropolol 50mg (yes that's it). I asked my cardiologist abnot this and he said " keep it under 150"....
I was told that the higher heart rate is part of the inflammatory response from the surgery and that it usually goes back to normal about 8 weeks post-op. I was put on metoprolol also. My resting HR the first month after surgery was upper 70s to mid 80's and... Read more.
