About Me (In My Own Words)
My Mother was a RN and Director of Nurses in a large East Coast Hospital. As a child diagnosed with a murmur. We always watched it and I stayed active in athletics throughout high school and college.
Began to see a Cardiologist in the mid 1990's. All the usual tests we monitored for heart performance. He said you have a mild prolapse as well in the mitral. Let us see if there is further regression. Then in early September of 2003 I had a hard time breathing one evening and I told my wife. I put it off as high humidity and 90 plus temps.
She said load the car we are going to see our PCP. He listened said you are in Afib and are going straight to Hospital. Cardiologist met us there was admitted. After a couple days of testing he said you need a mitral valve replacement. Living in Columbus, Ohio, and there are fine surgeons there I said I am going to the Cleveland Clinic.
My Mother always spoke highly of CC and thus began my journey to CC and Marc Gillinov MD, Surgeon, that changed a saved my life in 2003. I am now 75 and in good health.
