About Me

When my bicuspid aortic valve became severely calcified I was told it's time to replace it. I also had an aneurysm in my ascending aorta and, even though it was not quite big enough to repair, my surgeon suggested doing it now rather than have to operate again later. I am 74 years old and preferred to get it all done while I was in good health. Everything went well. I had no blockages so did not require any bypasses. The valve was replaced with a bovine valve and the aneurysm was repaired with a graft. I am now three months post surgery and am in cardiac rehab. I have been struggling with high blood pressure and occasional Afib and recently had my Metoprolol increased to 50 mg twice daily plus 5 mg Lisinopril once daily. It seems to be ok now but I have daily, sometimes twice, ocular migraines. I had one after my angiogram and one while I was in recovery after my surgery. They slowed down after the doctor took me off Amiodarone, but are now back. I have dealt with ocular migraines for years but not every day.
