About Me (In My Own Words)
My plumbing is fixed!
In October 2018, I was doing pre-op checks for a total hip replacement. I was 58 years old. My primary doctor noticed a slight 'heart murmur' and referred me to get an echocardiogram.
I was having no symptoms and was actually stubborn and in denial a year prior when I first was warned about that murmur.
The results of the Echo were not good. I had severe mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation so there was going to be no hip surgery to occur.
I then went to a cardiologist and what a blessing that was! I learned that she had the same problem when she was in medical school-18 years ago. She told me she was able to have her heart 'repaired' and I asked, "Who did your surgery?" She responded that she went to Dr. Steven Bolling at Michigan Medical and I asked if she could help me to get an appointment with him. The appointments were set before I left her office.
Further testing, in February 2019 at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center in Ann Arbor, led to surgery on March 12, 2019. I have had nothing short of a FABULOUS experience-if open heart surgery can be fabulous for a big chicken like me!!!
How crazy that I could have ignored something that could be FIXED with such a high rate of success and also get back on my normal life trajectory.
Tomorrow is my post-op visit and I am all smiles!
