I am 49 years old with a congenital BAV that was detected when I was young. Although I have gone for checkups throughout my life (every 10 years or so) I never realized how serious the condition was until a few years ago when I applied for visa. I had to go for a detailed review and found out that I had mild to moderate stenosis. I got the visa but was advised to go for annual checkups. My stenosis progressed rapidly over a four year period. I found out this week that my stenosis is now severe and I have been advised to have elective surgery to replace the valve in the next few months else I face the risk of sudden death! I am apprehensive and looking for answers to many questions while trying to manage the rest of my life.
