10+ years ago I was told I had a murmur, mitral valve regurgitation. We told it was benign and not to worry about it. No plans were discussed to rechecking or treatment. I am also a Lupus patient. I had 3 family doctors drop the ball and specialists over the years. Finally my current GP had an echo done and refered me to cardiology. I was going to Mayo for a GI so I went there for my heart. Had a major echo performed and they found my aortic valve was regurgitating so bad the blood was hitting the mitral valve and it needs repaired. I will be getting a mechanical aortic valve. I was told Im in heart failure and could have been prevented with medication. I am so angry, sad, and having major anxiety. Now life long blood thinners. Not to mention what my family is also going through. Thank God for the Mayo Clinic!
