About Me (In My Own Words)
My primary care doctor listened to my heart during a routine annual exam and heard a heart murmur. He referred me to a cardiologist who suggested I get an echocardiogram. The cardiologist told me the echo saiid I had moderate/severe mitral valve regurgitation and he wanted me to see a surgeon. I met with two different surgeons in Boulder who both agreed it was time to repair the mitral valve.
I have no symptoms and feel great. I didn’t believe this diagnosis could possibly be true, but it is.
I did a lot of research and learned it was important to find a surgeon who did at least 50 of these surgeries per year and this led me to finding Dr. Chikwe at Cedars Sinai.
After sending my medical records I had a telehealth meeting with Dr. Chikwe and her nurse practitioner. Dr. Chikwe and the staff at the Smidt Heart Institute have been amazing! They are experienced, helpful, kind, and they are great communicators. I am confident that I’m in excellent hands!
