About Me

My aortic valve stenosis was diagnosed 8/18/16 after a routine visit to my MD for yearly check up in July. Two echoes and two cardiologists later, it was determined that my stenosis was in part due to a congenital bicuspid aortic valve. I had been told periodically that I had a slight murmur all of my life but thought nothing of it. I have been symptomatic for a year or so, just didn't know what it was. I've had trouble navigating stairs to my second floor apartment, especially with tons of groceries. I blamed it on being out of shape, menopause, etc. I've been extremely tired, no energy, and no interest in doing or going anywhere. But I've kept working. I'm waiting on a surgery date that will either be in a week or so, or the first week of November. My employer is having me do the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). I am grateful that my job and insurance is protected, but this will cause a financial hardship. I wasn't prepared for this surgery and all that follows, including this financial piece of it. I am trying hard not to panic, but it's difficult. Just the waiting for the surgery is kind of depressing. I found this group on FaceBook and joined. It's nice to read other's stories with the same or similar heart issues. I especially enjoy reading posts after surgery! It's helping me get better prepared. I welcome any suggestions, prayers, advice, shout outs, similar experiences, etc. Thank you in advance! 😊
