I had AVR at CPMC Van Ness on January 7th, by Dr. Glenn Egrie with a mini-sternotomy — only 3 inches. I now have a St. Jude Regent 23mm mechanical valve.
Pre-surgery, I had no noticeable symptoms, but severe regurgitation with a bicuspid aortic valve and an enlarged left ventricle. I was still running and biking regularly, and feeling great -- I'm hoping my fitness habits will help with a smooth recovery.
