Hi Jonh, i hope you're doing better with Afib and a flutter issue, I know from ur posts u have been having alot of arrhythmia issues, mine are not as bad as ur but today i would up in ER whole during cardiac rehab my heart rate went to like 160 and i was experiencing alot of PAC(or PVC) cant remember wich one exactly. I am 3 months out, i thought it would stop. Are you still experiencing arrhythmia issues and what are ur doctors telling you as a solution or how much time to wait until it goes away. I appreciate any input.

John O'Neill Thanks for the note, Alex, and I'm sorry you ended up in the ER! I definitely advise you to follow the recommendations of your cardiologist with regard to arrhythmia/tachycardia.
My cardiologist has me on Amiodarone and Carvedilol for arrhythmia, and I've been in sinus rhythm since early morning, February 3rd. According to him, the Amiodarone sticks around in the body's fat cells even after one is done taking it, protecting the patient. Once I'm done taking Amiodarone, my cardiologist will give have me wear a Zio Patch to check to see if there are any remaining arrhythmias.

Alex Sigalov hi John, thank you so much for your response, my Dr put me on Zio Patch today for a week to determine how often i am having PVC and PAC, and what solution it warrants, Yeah it was definitely a setback for me yesterday as otherwise i felt like more or less recovery was going ok and at least during rehab i was able to have good workouts, but my Dr told me i was ok to go back to rehab, will see how next session goes.

I was in a-flutter for 3 weeks following my mitral valve replacement in August - although it came on a few weeks after the surgery. I was scheduled for cardioversion but it was canceled because of an issue with completing the TEE beforehand. I was discussing the possibility of an ablation when I went back into regular rhythm on my own and have stayed in rhythm since then. So, it can happen. Hope you get straightened out soon either way.

Hi John Afib is not much fun I know I had it for 2 years before my surgery and the for 2 months after on and off sometimes would go all night. But eventually stopped and only have the occasional little flutter. Was on meds for it but have now stopped taking them. I hope it settles for you soon too. Take care

Hi John, I had a bicuspid aortic valve replacement 3 1/2 years ago. After the surgery I developed intermittent a-fib as well. Dr put me on blood thinners and like you had trouble getting my INR in range.
I began seeing a naturopathic Dr and he suggested I try taking the amino acid L-Taurine to stabilize the A-Fib. He showed me a study done in Japan documenting their use and success with taurine. One day after beginning with Taurine my a-fib subsided. Look into it.

Hi John
I was surprised to see my name on Adams site. I had my AVR done twelve years ago with a Soren Carbomedics mechanical valve at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. I also had an aneurysm repaired and one bypass. On January thirteenth I had my eleventh annual checkup. It was the best ever! I wonder if we are related as BAV is genetic. Search Adams site for John O’Neill Triathlete for my story. You are through the worst so just stay active and keep moveing.

Gina G Hi John! I want to wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery. It’s normal to feel anxious of course, and if your experience is anything like mine you’re hoping for these few days before to both go slowly but also just want to get to the point where the surgery is done so you can get on to recovering! I hope you feel as secure as you can, and know that you’re not alone. Soon this will be behind you. Take care!
Hi John. I live in San Francisco too. Where are you going to have your surgery?
John O'Neill Hi Ron, thanks for the message. I don't have a date yet, but probably early 2020.

Ron Weaver I have a bicuspid aortic valve and a 4.7cm ascending aortic aneurysm. I have Kaiser insurance through my retirement but I think I’m going to pay out of pocket to go outside of kaiser for surgery. I’m not confident Kaiser does enough of these surgeries to be really good.
