This was my fourth open heart surgery. It was my second Aortic Root Replacement. In 1997 I had it replaced with a human donor valve and this time it was replaced with a mechanical valve. the valve was severly calcified and the leaflet didn't close. I've had heart problems since birth and I was diagnosed with Shone's complex. My first surgery was a coarctation of the Aorta in 1981 My second surgery was a substenosis of the aorta in 1990 Let's hope this mechanical valve lasts me the rest of my life. I just need to get used to the warfin. I don't really like being on the blood thinners but you have to do what you have to do!
