Send Iyla a NoteAbout Me
Small heartattack in 2022, AFib followed by ablation in 2023. Routine check with echocardiogram, showed extensive MAC, mitral regurgitation with enlarged left ventricle. Was told immediate surgery was necessary and my daughter was called to come from abroad as the operation is extremely risky. Then had a TOE after 20 hours of no fluids, followed by 'You can go home'. The TOE shows different results than the 3 cardiologists saw in the Eco. The 20 hour fast that brought on huge dehydration was not mentioned. I went home, bewildered. Since I have experienced afib again, resulting in an overnight stay, where I finally got to see a cardiologist again. The Eco then showed it had grown from 22.9 in the 6 weeks from the last hospital visit. She has ordered a Mitral cardio test (echo under cycling test) later this month. I have since recieved a note from a cardiac surgeon in Toulouse (5 hours away) saying, "best to monitor with frequent ultrasounds, as there are no established severity criteria, and furthermore, the extent of the calcifications in your mitral valve ring makes surgery a very high-risk option. " I have read this kind of operation is risky/complex, but just how risky is it? I am 72 next month, otherwise healthy, no stents, LV ejection fraction 74%, but a strong family history of heart disease. I am confused, frustrated and I don't even know what else. Guess I just wait until the 26th and see what the cycling test shows in regards to the mitral valve.
