About Me (In My Own Words)
My name is Annie, I am 48 yrs young :), and a married mom of an 8 yr-old boy. A heart murmur was detected during a physical exam when I was 16 yrs or so. It was because of my son, however, that I learned of the complexity of my 'little" heart murmur. I was found to possess BAV & a thoracic aortic aneurysm during a routine OB appt. early in my pregnancy. I was referred to a cardiologist by my OB Dr. for a "better listen" of my murmur, and then was sent to have an echocardiogram & EKG. My son had an echo too, in utero! (I thought this was awesome because I got to see my baby earlier than one is normally offered an ultrasound viewing during pregnancy.) And sure enough it was confirmed that I had a bicuspid aortic valve, but thankfully he did not!
After 8 yrs of watching my condition/disease (of the valve) & watching also the status of the aneurysm, still thinking a valve replacement and surgery were a long way off, I came to learn this year that the condition of my valve had worsened to "surgical replacement status" - severe stenosis. Yikes!! Currently I am seeking a 2nd opinion & waiting for a call-back from a surgeon's office for another consultation.
