About Me (In My Own Words)
My valve was damaged by radiation I had for Hodgkins Lymphoma way back in 1988. Over the years the radiation did its damage. I was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2013. I was told to by my doctors in Joplin, Missouri to go to Cleveland Clinic as I was high risk. The surgery went good but within a week of being back home in Missouri, everything went crazy. My lungs collapsed, I had cardiac tamponade, PE's, CHF, Dresslers Syndrome, and an unknown infection. I was life flighted to the Joplin hospital and then life flighted back up to Cleveland Clinic. They put me in quarantine as they did not yet know if the infection was Swine Flu, which was going around that year. Swabs to the CDC showed no swine flu. They went in and drained the fluid around my heart and it was just touch and go for a while. I was there for a little over a month. I have no spleen and a compromised immune system so my body had a time of it fighting everything. I am 6 years out now and doing pretty good except for recently developing bad speeding up of my heart while exercising. I can feel and hear my valve ticking along nicely and then all of a sudden it will go crazy fast taking my breath away and causing me to cough. I just moved to Alabama and see a new cardiologist today for the first time in over a year. I finally have insurance and can establish one! I have a home INR kit so have been monitoring my own INR for over a year. My regular dr had written an RX of Coumadin for a year. I'm excited to finally be seeing a cardiologist again! I wish the best to each of you! ❤️
