About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse several years ago during test for chronic insomnia. My cardiologist stated at that time that I would one day need to have surgery for it, but the timing needed to be at the right time with the right technology. I've been asymptomatic up until recently with a few episodes of pounding heart, light-headeness and fatigue that was otherwise unexplainable. Test showed the time would not be any more right.
95% of the time I still feel just fine. Only with exercise do I notice my energy level is not what I should expect. So is seems strange to be anticipating this major surgery while I carry on with normal activities.
I have many concerns with going under the knife, including complications due to doing this late in life. Not that I'm in terrible health, but organs just normally aren't as strong as they once were. I'm also concerned with lung capacity and a weakness in that area, having had a couple of bouts with lung infections and getting chest congestion easily.
I appreciate all the activity on this site and the helpful and reassuring tips from everyone with the varied experiences.
