John Isham My wife Heather and I arrived at Duke Hospital this afternoon at 1:30 pm to get admitted. Everything went seamlessly. Admission check-in took 10 minutes or less. The Duke Team quickly got my IV started, Chest X-Ray done, blood work done, urine done, Spirometer in hand, gown on, TV on (Duke BB game on at 7 PM; they play about 15 minutes from here)
Got all the consents signed, nurses coming in and out like Grand Central Central. My Heart Surgeon come by and I asked him a host of questions a mile long so got all my questions answered. The Anesthesiologist came and reviewed the protocol. There will a different Anesthesiologist in the morning for me (Dr. Dan the Man). So All Systems are on GO! The gentleman next door to me is having the exact same procedure done tomorrow am also so we are Heart Warrior buddies already!
The Guardian Angels will be flooding my OR Room in the morning along with all your prayers and support! Thank You for those prayers and God Bless You all. I’ll leave some snacks in the recovery room for those waiting the the OR light ON for you all! I am in a great state of mind and this staff is terrific here!
The Serenity Prayer also gives me total peace so let’s all say it together here...
“God Grant Me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change; COURAGE to change the things I can: AND WISDOM to know the difference..
THY WILL NOT MINE BE DONE...
AMEN
Thank You all Heart Warriors and I’ll see you on the Recovery Side!
My surgery is at 7 am tomorrow and they’ll come get me for pre-surgery preparation around 5-5:30 am.
I am looking forward to being fixed and living life to the fullest for many more years to come!
Time to Get R Done!

Dan Vechiola Yes you are lucky guy John for having Heather by your side. Its tough on our loved ones. Seeing the fear in their eyes made me work even harder. Sharing with them that I was feeling better felt so good because it lightened their load. I even think its easier being the one going through the surgery than being the helpless one having to watch. Keep up the great work you two!
Tracy Fallu Your beautiful wife will be tight be your side.
