Sep 17 marked 5 years since my son had his bicuspid aortic valve and aneurysm repaired. He is now 24. He still has some leakage but things are stable! The black shirt pic is a few weeks before surgery. The rubber ducky shirt is this week from work. Difficult journeys often lead to beautiful destinations.

4 years ago today my then 19 year old son, Sebastian, had his bicuspid aortic
valve repaired. Things are still stable with his repair and aneurysm and we are still thankful for every day of good health.

Jill Mullikin Hi Marie. The further we get from surgery the calmer I get, however, I think it’s working in reverse for him. He is very apprehensive about doing anything physical and any twinge of illness makes him panic. He had issues with anxiety and depression before we learned of his valve and aneurysm and he was a bit traumatized by the surgery. The fear of Covid has also not helped.

Marie Myers I hope things settle down for him. I understand that anxiety about future /possible issues. I still get high BP readings when I visit the doc, and getting an echocardiogram can definitely raise my anxiety levels. Again, I hope things settle down for him as he matures.

16 months post BAV valve repair and still doing well! I am very thankful for every month of good health and hope his repair lasts a very long time. He’s working at Subaru assembling cars and, so far, it’s working out well.

Jill Mullikin It’s a small Subaru world! I have to give them props for their safety program. Anything over 10 pounds had a lift assist so I don’t have to worry as much about him over exerting himself. He was given a 50 pound restriction to hopefully prolong the life of the repair. Thank you everyone for your kind words! This is a hard road for everyone but to see the will to persevere is uplifting.

The kids went on a work trip to 🇨🇦 with me a couple weeks ago and we were able to see Niagara Falls. Bash continues to do well coming up on 8 months post BAV repair.

My daughter and I were happy to support Bastian today while he took his GED exam! 4 of 5 sections have been scored and he’s passed them all. Amazing how different he is 12 weeks later!!!

8 weeks yesterday! No more metaprolol so just on one baby aspirin per day. Waiting on insurance to approve a follow up CT but doing well!

Tomorrow marks 6 weeks since surgery! Bastian will be 20 this coming Saturday and went to his dad’s this weekend to celebrate. I love seeing smiles! If you look closely you can just see his incision.
