Tracie, one year ago today, I started my OHS journey and last August Dr McCarthy performed my mitral valve repair.
In 1994 I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve prolapse and had echos every 5 years. Last May 9, during a physical my PCP noticed my heart valve sounded very different. So more echos, TEE, catheterization and then surgery.
If you have any questions please ask me. You can read my history on this site, as well. You are in good hands. Take this journey one day at a time. It’s a slow recovery, but you will feel much better in time.
I’ll be praying for you.

Hi Tracy,
I had open heart aortic valve replacement and mitral valve repair. It truly was a very easy recovery. I think sometimes it’s to our disadvantage to read all the complaints people love to put out there. I was not scared of the surgery but I was of the recovery and what a pleasant surprise. I was out shopping on the 8th day and recovered quite quickly. I wish you the same.

leslie terjesen Agreed, I was totally asymptomatic before my aortic valve replacement on Feb. 19 so not sure if that helped but when I woke up in ICU, my only complaint was that my hand hurt! And basically my ring finger and pinkie were numb for a while, pinkie still is but boy, if that was my biggest complaint, YAY! Easy recovery, just rested quite a bit and since so much flu around while I was recouping, felt better staying home but felt good. Now I am out gardening while not at cardiac rehab out walking with friends.
Rest up and take it one step (literally) at a time.
