Hi Tammy, I just read your whole blog, thanks for posting it. My heart goes out to you being the sole caregiver for your Mom. I did that too.
I agree with some of the early posts, I would get help. Your local Area Agency on Aging might be able to help.
Best wishes on your surgery.

yes tammy i have had kidney stones since 1969 when i went into the navy they started at my first duty station oceana va beach va i went to portsmoth naval hospital and had them removed with a cystoscope then while in the hospital on a special diet i formed more stones they were all three types phorest calcium and acid stones and one was the size of a marble and i passed it the doctor woke me up the next morning and congradulated me just as if i had a baby ha ha but they had a medical board convene and decided to put me on disability retired from the navy as time went on i formed 5 or 6 a year and had so many cystos that my urin tract became so enlarged that i would pass them without a cysto but when ever i have one i do bleed a little in my urin and i know i am passing a stone but i dont have as many now only about 2 or 3 a year and i pass them all so far and so as the stone moves thru your urin tract it cuts you and you have blood in your urin and you know you have a stone passing they can be very very painful but after you have had as many as i have had they dont hurt as bad because of all the cystos my urin tract is larger now i hope this helps and i have not bored you your heart brother steve (popeye)

Tammy VanBuskirk Nope not boring, but I am certainly thankful I've only had one. After reading your story. Did the doctors recommend you have a tissue valve knowing all th trouble you had? I guess you really have me thinking. I bleed heavily with mine so I can see the Coumadin risk. The doctor did say most likely I would have another in my lifetime. Thanks for being so informative. Another question to consider. Lol I'm so glad I talked to you. Thanks Again

Steven A Husted no the doctors seem to think it would not matter that i had so many kidney stones but both doctors my first doctor dr todd recomended a bovine valve then he was booked up or out of town and my second doctor recomended a bovine valve also so this along with the the coumadin for the rest of my life made me choose the bovine valve it is a hard decision because at first i was for a mech. valve for the longevity but after doing a lot of reading that the bovine valve has lasted a long time in one case i read a bovine valve lasted 31 years so you have to weigh all the pros and cons and decide what ever you decide remember they are making new findings every year new procedures new valves new improvements so a few years down the road who knows what they will come up with best wishes and prayers be with you in your decision and the lord will take care of you all the way your heart brother steve (popeye)
